Waffle House dresses up for Valentine’s Day

Pink lighting and candlelight lit the windows of the Waffle House on College Street Saturday night.

For Valentine’s Day, the diner-style restaurant brought in candles, pink tiffany and co plastic to cover the lights, a violinist, tablecloths and pink and red napkins.

“Something over the top — a Waffle House with a violinist,” store manager Jamie McAnally joked.

The restaurant also took dinner reservations on the day dedicated to romance.

“It’s the first time it’s been done” in Auburn, McAnally said.

Waitress Andrea Elder helped McAnally decorate.

“We had to set the mood. It’s not very easy to decorate a Waffle House,” she said. “I picked out the decorations — very Valentine-y.”

Families took advantage of the romantic evening.

“Our kids love Waffle House,” said Ashley Benson, who came with her silver rings family. “The decorations, the candlelight and the violin, it’s great ambiance.”

“We wanted to do a family Valentine’s,” Scott Benson, her husband, said.

Scott and Ashley surprised their children with the Waffle House reservation.

“I like that we got a surprise,” Meredith Benson, 8, said.

“I like the candles,” Thomas Benson, 6, silver bracelets said.

William Benson, 1, and Carter Benson, 5, also joined in the festivities.
